To Honorable Minister: Sassui Palijo: Culture & Tourism.
Govt. of Sindh,Pakistan.
Subject: Support for undertaking Research.
Dear Madam,
With due respect I would like to inform you that, basically I am an Artist (BFA, M.A. in Fine Art and Ph.D. in Art & Archaeology) and the area of my research field is the Indigenous and the Traditional Arts and Culture and its relevant archaeological, ethnological, sociological, cultural and historical background and findings.
It is to inform you that I have done an extensive research on the Folk Arts of Bangladesh in my Ph. D. Research program entitled ‘Folk Art of Bangladesh through Ethno-Archaeological Perspective’. This work was completed under the guidance of the world famous Archaeologist and Historian Dr. V.S. Wakankar of the Central India. This research encompasses the Folk Artifacts in all aspects since early period to contemporary times which are traditionally flourished in Bangladesh. Field survey work had carried out with Dr. V.S. Wakankar and his team in 1984 – 1987 in the important Pre-historic sites of the Central India.
It is learnt from my visit in 2008 to Punjab, Lahore Museum, correspondences with the scholars of Pakistan in the field of Traditional Art & Archaeology and ethnology that, the Sindh region of Pakistan possesses a very rich heritage in its traditional Art and Culture which is bloomed and flourished in this wider region mainly from the Indus valley sites since early period. It has a glorious remote tradition and background in archaeology, history, ethnology with aesthetic beauty.
The Artifacts, in the folk arena of Bangladesh is noteworthy in view to its remote glorious heritage, historical and archaeological findings and background and aesthetic values, and often it is curiously observed that in many cases these are very much similar to such Artifices of Sindh. Hence the matters mentioned above sprung me up to undertake a research in a comparative study viz.“ Symbol of Civilization-Significant Motifs, Patterns and Forms of the Traditional Painted Pottery of the Sindh, Pakistan: Archaeo-Ethnological and Aesthetic Appreciation: A Comparative Study with that of the Artwork of the Rural Bangladesh”.
Or “Artistic Heritage of the Sindh, Pakistan: Traditional Ornamentation Artwork of the Mosques & Tombs in Sultane Muslim Period: – Ethno-Archaeological and Aesthetic Appreciation: A Comparative Study with that of the Artwork of the said Old Muslim Monuments in Bangladesh “.
I am optimistic that if it can be completed in such nature of research, the scholars and the people of both the above mentioned countries as well as those of the people of other countries of the world will be significantly benefited from the findings. I have also an especial interest and desire to work in cooperation with the historians, Artists & archaeologist, the people, students, teachers and scholars of the said region who are very sincere, active and with excellent moral character in hospitable nature elements. We are the same people with same cultural heritage in the spirit of the Islam with its glorious historical background just living thousands of miles away from each other.
It’s to notify you also that I have participated in the International, National and various group Art Exhibitions at home and abroad. It is my pleasure to inform you that the honorable Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan had invited me to deliver lecture to the students of the Ph. D. program of the University College of Fine Arts & Design, University of the Punjab, Lahore. I have delivered five Lectures on the topic – ‘The traditional Arts & Culture its Relevant Archaeology and Ethnology of the Indo-Pak-Bangladesh Sub-continent’ that was held therein Punjab University , Lahore on the last week of January, 2008.
It may be mentioned in this connection that our Govt. is not in a position to sponsor me in such work and research in abroad due to financial constraints. We can spend money as much as possible as we want in our country only. But our Govt. doses not allow sending money over abroad. Thus it is very hard to undertake any study without the support from the host country where the work shall be conducted.
I, therefore, request your honor to kindly make an arrangement for the award of Fellowship/ Grant/ Visiting Professor/ Research Supervisor Professor or any suitable position to undertake such a study in Sindh. Thanking you with immense respect. Allah Hafez.
